The new annual pass is being launched in conjunction with the new ‘Release the History – Step Inside King John’s Castle’ campaign, and will give holders year round access to the historic Castle in the heart of medieval Limerick City, rewarding frequent visitors.
In addition to year round admission, the new membership card offers holders a 10% discount on admission to other Shannon Heritage attractions, 10% off purchases in the King John’s Castle Café and Gift Store and priority booking on specific King John’s Castle events.
Showcasing over 800 years of Limerick’s turbulent history, King John’s Castle is enjoyable for both young and old alike. The Castle walls and towers stand proudly today as a testimony of the skill and ingenuity of stonemasons, carpenters and crafts men who worked on it for over several decades. The castle’s colourful 800 year history is a reminder of times of turbulence and upheaval followed by peace and prosperity. Visitors are invited to explore the siege shelters and walk through the remains of the Great Hall of the Castle - built circa 1280.
This autumn King John’s Castle launched a campaign called ‘Release the History’ aimed at increasing awareness of King John's Castle locally in Limerick and to foster a sense of curiosity about the story and history of the castle.
The visitor centre brings to life over 800 years of dramatic local history. The centre has state of the art interpretive activities and exhibitions, features 21st century touch screen technology and 3D models that allow visitors to interact as they learn about the tales of siege and warfare at the Castle. Children can also enjoy the castle’s interactive clue trail, dress up in costume of the time, shoot a cannon and crawl through a siege tunnel.
One of the highlights of any visit to King John’s Castle are the stunning views one can enjoy from the top of the castle towers across Limerick City, the River Shannon and Clare Hills.
Niall O’Callaghan, Managing Director of Shannon Heritage said “We are really excited to be launching a new annual membership for King John’s Castle. This ties in with our most recent campaign, to encourage Treaty men and women to explore limerick’s cultural centrepiece. The new pass follows on from the success of the annual pass for Bunratty Castle & Folk Park launched earlier this year, and both aim to reward frequent and loyal visitors to our attractions.”
